George Anderson & Sons is
a family run business which has been established
for more than 35 years. Now in it’s Third
Generation we pride ourselves on our ability to
continually review our systems in the hope that
we provide the best possible service. This has allowed
us to successfully grow into one of Scotland's leading
independant distributors of fresh produce, with
an annual turnover of over £5m.
Our efficient customer care
team is always on hand to help process your orders
and
deal with any queries and thus achieve our mission:
"To provide unrivalled capability to meet the
requirements of our customers throughout the year,
with the quality, quantity and sheer variety of
fresh produce that they demand"

George Anderson and Sons currently
own and operate a fleet of 20 temperature
controlled vehicles ranging from H.G.V. lorries
to Mercedes Sprinter vans, constantly
updated after three years with a full maintenance
and servicing plan. All vehicles are fitted with
mobile telephones allowing us to contact our drivers
instantly.
Our modern offices and depot are based in Macmerry,
just off the A1 and Edinburgh
City Bypass. We find this to be an excellent logistical
position to offer a fast and efficient delivery
service to the major towns and cities of Scotland.
A site more than double the size of our previous
site in Musselburgh has been modified to comply
with the recommendations of the British Retail Consortium
(BRC Global Standard Food Storage and Distribution).
The hugely
increased warehouse and refrigerated areas give
us the ability to control a strict stock rotation
program to ensure that our customers are receiving
the best quality and variety of produce on a daily
basis. We have certified accreditation which allows
us to supply the NHS and other Public Authorities.

| At George Anderson & Sons we are
fully aware of our responsibilities and we
seek to positively influence our suppliers and staff
to eradicate unfair practices and
discrimination. This helps to encourage a culture
of fairness and respect where everyone can reach
their full potential.
Our suppliers are required to recognise the requirements
of the ETHICAL TRADING
BASE CODE.The main points of this are that employment
is freely chosen, conditions are safe and hygienic,
no child labour is used, working hours are not excessive,
living wages are paid, regular employment is provided
and no harsh treatment or discrimination is allowed.
Our staff have access to all available training,
eg. REHIS programmes for fruit packers
and Forklift instruction and examination for warehouse
staff , we also try to ensure that all unnecessary
barriers are removed for job candidates with particular
requirements.
It is George Anderson and Sons’ policy to
reduce waste, recycle as much as possible
and to minimise the impact of our business on the
environment. Therefore, all our delivery vehicles
are fitted with fuel inhibitors and are maintained
to very high specifications with regular emission
tests. Delivery routes are laid out in the most
efficient way to reduce mileage.

Our new warehouse is fully insulated
and double glazed. The refrigerated area was built using
the latest technology using no CFCs or HCFCs and all packaging
is re-used wherever possible.
Although George Anderson and Sons currently have a very
diverse and extensive range of products meeting the needs
of many different types of catering outlets we are still
very active in sourcing and developing new products. This
can come as a request from a customer or from a supplier
but usually the best products are developed through the
exchange of ideas and information.
George Anderson and Sons have been working closely with
our customers throughout
the development of E-procurement. We have already expanded
our catalogue to include electronic images in JPEG format
of all the produce on the Oracle system. We remain convinced
that E-procurement will provide future improvements to
efficiency and thus lower costs in the ordering and invoicing
procedures for both suppliers and customers.
